Role overview
The Director of Engineering leads Muvr’s engineering organization and is accountable for delivering reliable, scalable, and high-quality technology that powers the marketplace. This role bridges technical strategy and execution, ensuring engineering velocity, platform stability, and strong collaboration with Product, Operations, Revenue, and Marketing.
This role reports to the CEO and works closely with Product and Design leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Strategy & Execution
- Own the engineering roadmap and execution aligned with company priorities.
- Balance speed, quality, and technical debt in a fast-growing startup environment.
- Ensure systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable.
Platform, Architecture & Quality
- Oversee system architecture across web, mobile, backend, and integrations.
- Establish best practices for code quality, testing, reliability, and incident response.
- Lead decisions on build vs. buy, tooling, and infrastructure.
Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Collaborate with Operations, Revenue, and Marketing to support growth and efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership during launches, incidents, and scaling moments.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
- Set clear expectations, career paths, and performance standards.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Delivery, Process & Velocity
- Establish agile development processes that drive predictable delivery.
- Improve planning, estimation, and execution across teams.
- Use metrics to track engineering health, velocity, and reliability.
Security, Compliance & Risk
- Ensure appropriate security, data privacy, and compliance practices.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical and operational risks.
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including senior leadership roles.
- Proven experience scaling engineering teams and platforms in high-growth environments.
- Strong technical foundation across modern web, mobile, and backend systems.
- Experience partnering closely with product and business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated people leadership and organizational-building skills.
Preferred
- Experience with marketplace, logistics, mobility, or on-demand platforms.
- Background in cloud infrastructure and scalable distributed systems.
- Experience leading teams through rapid growth or platform re-architecture.
